We just wanted to.

We just wanted to do it. Despite that fact that all four of us are pleasantly employed and happy as can be, we just wanted to see what would happen if we got together to write some new songs. Both Todd and Chris are teaching, Damon heads up Warped Tour operations, and I’ve been marketing for Threadless. When we say we’re getting the band back together, we’re not getting the “200 shows a year” band back together. Nor are we getting the “30 compilations a year” band back together. But the four of us in a room, writing songs, well, that just straight up means Braid is back together. And that’s exciting.

We came up with the idea in April and as a testament to our IMPOSSIBLE schedules, we finally got together in December to write some songs. Once we got together and plugged in, it was exhilarating and remarkably easy. We hadn’t worked together on new material since 1998. I was 23. Insane that 12 years later, we could pick up right where we left off.

Sure, we’re older and, over the years, we’ve decided to take on many of the responsibilities we so loved to shun back then. (Families, health insurance, compromise, etc) But the music & the spirit hasn’t changed one bit. So yeah, I’m super excited. To record these songs in February with our old friend J. Robbins. To put out a new chapter in Braid’s history on the label where we started. And what the hell, maybe we’ll play a show or two. We’ll make sure to give advance notice, cause there won’t be many.

Thank you so much for all of your enthusiasm! I’m excited too! We’ll keep this updated with progress reports, photos, etc. and you can follow us on twitter and facebook, too! We even have a formspring page where you can ask us questions. We’re decently savvy for old rock dudes.
